Northgate Forest Installs Landscape Lighting by Illuminations Lighting Design

Northgate Forest is a 440-acre master-planned residential and recreational community located in the Northwest Houston area. Secluded in the towering pines, Northgate offers a lifestyle of quiet elegance and relaxed sophistication yet is located just 18 miles north of Houston’s Central Business District and 13 miles west of Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Northgate Forest’s development, which began in 1982, has also produced Northgate Country Club which is situated upon 218 acres and includes a 30,000 square foot clubhouse, 27-hole golf course, tennis, swimming and reception facilities. 

The owner of Northgate Forest Development, Jack Thoner, wanted to put the finishing touches on the main entrance and his newest golf course creation, so he contacted his old friend, Tom Kretzschmar, President of Illuminations Lighting Design for some professional landscape lighting assistance.

After a short design meeting, it was evident to Kretzschmar that Mr. Thoner wanted this project to be something special. He envisioned a nighttime display that would catch the attention of those passing the property on FM 1960 and give residents a warm welcome as they entered the property. To achieve those desires, Mr. Kretzschmar outlined the following plan of action:

• Add new lighting to illuminate the main entrance signage and surrounding foliage in a tasteful way.
• Add landscape lighting mounted high in the trees to provide moonlight illumination around the front of the property and main entrance.
• Add landscape lighting concealed in the shrubs to dramatically illuminate tree foliage adjacent to the front of the property.
• Add high performance pin spots to showcase the signature stone bridge over the lake in a sculptural fashion.
• Add landscape lighting concealed in the shrubs to dramatically illuminate tree foliage, adding depth of field and creating a backdrop of light and shadows from the street view.
