Swimming pool houses are becoming increasingly popular in luxury backyards. Once rarely anything more than simple changing rooms, these structures have evolved into fully functioning outdoor buildings capable of housing guests and providing them with the basic fundamentals of life. Pool house lighting plans by Illuminations Lighting Design ensure that these remarkable outdoor structures are properly supported with their own unique type of lighting design that enables them to be used as comfortable guest quarters for visiting family and friends.
The lighting fixtures that are installed in a swimming pool guest house will depend to a great extent on its size, exterior architecture, and interior build out. Just like an outdoor kitchen, a swimming pool guest house is an aesthetic landscape element as much as it is a functional outdoor building. Appropriate architectural fixtures and up lights are mounted on and around the building to generate a high quality outdoor pool house lighting around its form.
Moving inside the building, the dynamic shifts to custom lighting designs uniquely adapted to each room interior. Typically when you walk through the door of a pool house, you enter into a small living area with basic furnishings, possibly a small television, a kitchenette, and a refrigerator. In effect, you have a small living room that has to be illuminated much like that of a home. Interior design here should blend general lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting into overlapping layers of luminance that support the living experience.
It is important to note that these interiors are so well designed that few people ever change out of wet swimsuits in the living room or kitchen. Instead, there are usually changing rooms just to one side of the door where people can hang up wet swim clothes and change into dry day clothes. Pool house lighting here is very similar to that of lighting a closet inside a custom home. Only one layer of general lighting is typically all that is needed here.
In most of the newer buildings, bathrooms are also included as separate rooms so that people can shower and groom without wet, dripping clothes hanging all around them. Bathroom pool house lighting is very similar to that of interior bathroom lighting inside the home. There are general, overhead lights for the entire room, vanity lights over the counter, and recessed shower lights for visibility during late night showers after a late night swim.
Larger swimming pool houses may also have a bedroom where people can comfortably stay overnight. Just as we see in luxury home bedrooms, general lighting and functional reading light are combined so that people can see to get dressed and relax at night with just enough light to read. If the bedroom is colorfully decorated, decorative fixtures may be added to enhance the attraction factor of wall designs, and accent lights may even be added to showcase specific interior architectural keynotes or interior designs.
Controls in pool house lighting are not as sophisticated as those inside a luxury home. Luxury home lighting control systems are too complex to wire into a small outdoor building. They are also unnecessary when we consider that typically we are using only one to three layers of light generated by a handful of fixtures. All that is needed to control the levels of each layer of light, then, are basic wall-box dimmers with slide controls that can be quickly moved to any level of illumination desired by the occupants.
