Light can be Art, too!
Many people, when they think of art, immediately think of the painting Grand Masters, such as Rembrandt, Vincent, Michelangelo, and Leonardo, and galleries graced with their works. Others think of Rodin’s “The Thinker” or Michelangelo’s “David.”
Still, rarer are those whose first thoughts turn to the Vatican, the Louvre, the Guggenheim, or even the Chrysler Building, for their Architectural Features. Nevertheless, in every way that is important, structures are art, too.
Your home is art when you take a moment to see how one part seamlessly flows into another. The necessities of supporting different weights and loads are transformed into beautiful curves and arches, grand columns, or long “impossible” stretches that have their supporting structures cleverly concealed.
Engineering is science—there is no denying that—but how it is made real and woven into our daily experience…that’s Art. And yet the finest examples of beautiful homes or buildings can simply vanish in the dark.
The Beautiful Glow
Architectural lighting is your path out of the darkness, and there is no company better skilled or equipped to guide you than Illuminations Lighting Design. Even more importantly, we can do away with power-hungry illumination sources that haven’t changed much since the end of the 19th century.
Pressurized gas lighting, such as Mercury vapor (stark, hard white light) or Sodium vapor (monochromatic orangey-yellow light), requires high power consumption, and long start-up times. In the event of a power “flicker”, they have to completely extinguish themselves, cool down, and then restart, leaving your home (and perhaps party guests) in darkness for several minutes until they reset.
Nobody wants such an experience. That’s why humans invented lights that are just as bright, use as little as a 10th of the power, and come on instantly. And the best feature of all is that commercial grade LEDs lights last 50,000 to 200,000 hours, compared to either of the older sodium or mercury technologies, which only last for 24,000 hours.
