The Wave of the Future
For those of us that grew up in the 50s-80s, there has been a tremendous amount of change. Some of us saw TV for the first time, albeit in black & white, replacing radio, or actual musical instruments, as standard home entertainment. Back then at least one person in every home could play the piano.
Some of us remember TV being there all the time but saw it become colored. Not long after, regular AM radio gave way to that new “fad” of FM radio that needed two speakers so you could listen in stereo.
The Power of the Computer
Nowadays, no one under age 30 remembers not having the Internet or home computers. The idea of a permanently hardwired telephone is getting harder and harder to recall. Our computers and phones used to be somewhat clunky, but nowadays they fit in our pockets and on our wrists.
We have an immense amount of computing power at our disposal. Through the IoT (Internet of Things) and our incredible ability to connect everything, we could be sitting seaside on a Valencia Beach in Spain and admit the satellite repairperson to our homes back in Austin, TX. We could open the garage door when the Amazon truck arrives, and close it after they leave the parcel.
Automating the House
You can program a room to have a certain level of illumination and even a particular coloration. If it becomes dark and stormy outside, modern LED bulbs can change their color to bright and sunshine-like, if you desire.
Using light level and temperature sensors, our curtains can be drawn automatically when it gets too bright or hot. Or if you want to be on the cutting edge of modern technology, you can install LCD glass which can change from entirely opaque to completely clear upon need.
And what if the power fails? Fully automated backup emergency power generators fueled not by gasoline or diesel, but reliable Natural Gas will save the day! It can automatically isolate you from the power grid, and return full power to your home in a matter of minutes, to keep freezers, fridges, home security systems, A/C, sump pumps, and furnaces going.
Our Customers are Modern!
Joe Bullard from Houston wrote to say:
“I am so happy that I hired Illuminations to work on my new home. Of all the subcontractors on the project, you are the only guys who are on top of their game.”
Thanks, Joe! We try to set a standard that other contractors should try to live up to. By establishing a good example, we hope that service will improve for everyone, across the board!
It is so nice to have one vendor that can do the lighting design, electrical contracting, home automation and landscape lighting.
We’ve done our best to make sure that we are experts in all things electrical, whether for your home or your business. We’re real electrical engineers; we’re real art design consultants; we’re real electricians in every sense of the word.
I am anxious to move in and start playing with some of my new toys. Thanks!
Naturally, we’re thrilled that you are pleased with all the new capabilities. One of the most exciting functions that people are after now is the ability to speak into thin air and ask your house to do something for you. It’s almost like living on the starship Enterprise!
We can’t wait for the new replicators to arrive. Ummm — Tea…Earl Grey…hot!
The Takeaway
Home automation is the wave of the future; it won’t be long before we have another generation that this time wonders how people managed in the “olden days” when they couldn’t talk to their houses.
“My goodness,” they’ll exclaim. “People had to get up and operate a light switch that could only be On or Off? They had to physically adjust a thermostat by hand to change the temperature of their house?” or “You mean after the car drove them home, people had to get out of their cars and open the garage doors themselves?” Um, no… we still had to drive the cars ourselves for quite a while…
Maybe not today, or even tomorrow, but that day is coming. Will it be Alexa, Cortana, Siri, Google Assistant, or something even more interesting? We’ll find out together, but if you want to get a head start, we’d be more than happy to lend our expertise to get your home to the cutting edge of technological innovation!
We’re based in Houston, Texas, but in truth, ILD is the only “one-stop” destination for interior or exterior lighting design, art lighting, landscape lighting, or engineering in the entire state of Texas. We handle home automation, any additional electrical wiring, and installation services, too! And, to top it off, we are unrivaled by any lighting firm in the United States for lighting that is art.
