To boldly go where millions have gone before?
LED technology has already proven itself. It is an established fact that it can be as much as 90% more efficient than the filament-based lighting which was invented in the late 1800s.
It is versatile, beyond what most other lighting styles can accomplish. It is like a panacea for every lighting problem—it might be shorter to create a list of things that LED lighting cannot do, but as we have discovered so far, that list is still blank.
Maybe you have it in the back of your mind to wait until the year 2020, when Illuminations Lighting Design will turn 40 years old—maybe we’ll have some fantastic sale to celebrate our four decades in the lighting business. To be honest, there is nothing to say that such a thing won’t happen, but do you really want to continue to pay seven, eight, or nine times more than necessary for another couple of years?
Experienced
We have spent an enormous amount of time evaluating, testing, and recommending quality LED products for residential and commercial applications. We are not some Johnny-come-lately hoping to cash in on the latest trend. We were right there, at the beginning of the industry, growing alongside as new technologies became available.
Prices for LED technology have dropped significantly, and in order to climb aboard the savings bandwagon, consumers are buying LED products at local retail stores in order to save money and be energy efficient. We are certainly not going to blame them for trying to be conscious of their impact on the environment, or trying to save money. Unfortunately, they are often getting the wrong end of the stick in that deal.
Consider, for example, a well-known light bulb producer (who shall go nameless) that offers a 700 lumen bulb (60w equivalent) for $3.50… A consumer purchases it thinking they received a good deal, but completely fails to notice that in the fine print on the packaging that the light bulb is rated for 10,000 hours of operation.
Modern LED light bulbs should have a life expectancy of 50,000 to 100,000 hours. Anything that is made so poorly so as to last only 20%, or even 10%, of that amount of time seems to be designed to feed the replacement bulb market (planned obsolescence). To obtain the same life expectancy that you would get with a good quality LED bulb, that $3.50 investment suddenly becomes a $35.00 liability—certainly not the bargain you were expecting or looking for.
It also renders useless one of the best features of the LED bulb…its durability! Why would anyone put a poor-quality bulb in a location that necessitated owning a 15-foot stepladder in order to change light bulbs?
A 100,000 hour light bulb operating for 8 hours per day would last about 35 years. At five hours per day that jumps to about 55 years—considerably better than 3.5 years or 5.5 years, correct?
