Swingin’ from the Chandeliers!
Our customers love us…and believe us, the feeling is mutual! Without you folks, we wouldn’t have stayed in business for nearly 40 years… We couldn’t be happier than when we are faced with an interesting and tough problem to solve. Our customer testimonials always make us feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Sera Johnson, out of Spring, Texas, very kindly took the time to outline a problem created by a builder’s electrical installer when her chandelier lift wouldn’t function. In her own words:
We had an improperly installed electric chandelier lift that wouldn’t work with a heavy, custom hand blown glass chandelier hanging from it, that wouldn’t turn on. The chandelier lift was installed up in the attic above a 25-foot domed entryway ceiling.
This sounds like a job for… Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane. Oops, it’s not Illuminations Lighting Design…
One electrician had come out, couldn’t figure out the issue, and refused to work on it.
It’s time to call the super-electricians!
However, as soon as Illuminations came out, they quickly identified the problems.
That’s our job!
We had no idea that the original electrician had installed the lift incorrectly in the attic as our house was being built. Even the inspector didn’t catch the dangerous mistake.
Shawn’s crew came out, identified the complex issues and crafted a plan to fix it. Not only did they repair and reinstall the lift with the added, correct pulley system, but they also handled my treasured chandelier with such care and made sure everything worked perfectly.
Plus, the crew did their jobs with joy EVEN while having to go up into the attic with outside temps in the upper 90’s!
I am so glad they pushed through to find and carry out a great solution. We are delighted with the results!
Thank you, Illuminations!
Well, thank you, Johnson family, for placing your trust in us with your fabulous chandelier so we could solve your extremely complex issues. As with any chandelier lift system, it is essential that the electrical connection is interrupted when the chandelier is being lowered or raised. When you bring something down to floor level for cleaning and maintenance, you certainly don’t want it to be electrically energized.
It is crucial, too, that the technique to make and break that electrical circuit is safe. A properly installed lift automatically centers the chandelier as it reaches the top, making it impossible for a short circuit to occur.
Supporting you
As to the mechanics and supporting structure, an attic is an ideal place to work where the mechanical bits are out of site. The pulleys must be positioned correctly and mounted so that they can bear the load that will be placed upon them. They cannot be haphazard to suit the installer. They must be right!
You cannot just drill a hole in the ceiling and hope for the best either. A fixture must be precisely positioned—even 6 inches off-center can make it look ridiculous—so there is no choice for a large central fixture. It can only go to one place in a particular room.
If there is inadequate supporting structure, it must be created. Movement occurs in homes as they age. Such a settlement might take the form of spreading, shrinking, lowering, or any number of other changes. Although integrated, the support must remain stable and reliable despite what the house chooses to do around it.
Finally, the power source for the luminaire must be independent of the power source for the chandelier lift’s motor-drive. That way it is always possible to power the lift, even if there is an electrical fault with the light’s power source.
