With May in full swing, we’re thinking about Memorial Day and making plans for a glorious summer. No one intends to let the current economy ruin the fun of summer, especially after the harsh winter we all experienced. We may not spend as much money as we have in years past, but we all intend to go somewhere and do something enjoyable after all we have been through in the past 18 months.
That being said, it is very important to make sure that you have taken care of all indoor lighting maintenance and outdoor lighting maintenance concerns before you start travelling this summer. Illuminations Lighting Design wants to insure that your lighting systems are in good working order prior to your departure.
When necessary, we replace defective equipment with energy efficient upgrades. Additionally, when appropriate we recommend selective upgrades that can reduce your operating costs.
The first thing that we need to do is to check all of the vital equipment that supports your indoor lighting and residential landscape lighting. Everything, as you know, is tied to your home service panel. A circuit overload here can have negative ramifications for your home lighting system and possibly create a safety hazard as well. Testing the service panel to make sure that it is operating efficiently at reasonable load capacity is of paramount importance.
Next, we’ll check your indoor lighting, since indoor lights degrade in quality over time without you even realizing it is happening. The color rendering of many fixtures shifts visibly toward green. This can make your home interior look “off.” Special equipment and trained experts are needed to detect this because the eye becomes accustomed to the gradual shift.
If you are planning to be away from home this summer—even if only for the weekend—it is paramount that you secure your premises in as many ways as possible. Therefore, our skilled electricians will focus their efforts on your security and landscape lighting.
Security lights can be either timed to come on at certain times or triggered by remote sensors. Interior lights can also be timed via home lighting controls to come on and turn off at various times to make it look like you are at home.
All of these automated lighting controls are highly sensitive and sophisticated. They require special programming and very systematic testing to ensure operability. ILD will carefully examine all of your security lighting and home lighting controls to make sure that everything is up to spec before you leave on vacation. House lights need to be in good working order to make your home look less vulnerable and more “lived in.” Other fixtures that we check include specialty fixtures in your outdoor lighting array Tree lights are good to have as well, because they cast light in portions of the yard typically covered in very heavy shadow. Buried transformers, and wiring that power your landscape lighting system, need to be checked as well. Underwater lights in your pool or reflecting pond need to be examined by our technicians to insure uninterrupted operation. Floodlights now must meet with power usage regulations in addition to producing the intended lumens output required for effective home security.
Due to environmental conditions, older outdoor fixtures will fail with the passage of time. New LED pond lights that can last 40,000 hours and consume 80% less the power than other lights are possibly something you might want to invest in now to lower the cost of your outdoor lighting.
Maintenance is something ILD will do for anyone at any time, but the cost is less if the homeowner invests in a custom maintenance agreement that includes these and many other services budgeted over a specified period of time.
